What is IPL?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is non-invasive and a non-ablative cosmetic technology, used for Laser Hair Reduction and a range skin treatments.
At Mud Day Spa we pride ourselves on delivering our clients a variety of services in the one vicinity. Therefore we chose a second generation broad spectrum IPL machine that is highly effective at treating multipule skin concerns. including wrinkles pigmentation, broken capillaries and unwanted hair as opposed to a laser machine that often treats only one concern such as hair removal.
Our second generation IPL machine is an effective state of the art, medical grade system. It works very similar to laser however it delivers multiple wavelengths and a scattering affect allowing us to effectively treat a variety of skin concerns and hair types, including lighter finer hair that laser strungles to find. Our machine also has a powerful integrated cooling device allowing your hair reduction treatments to be almost completly pain free in delivering amazing results as opposed to other laser systems available.
IPL is making a big comeback in the industry with second generation IPL machines offering even more effective and comfortable results with its multiple wavelength system. Meaning we are able to reduce fine lines and wrinkles through skin rejuvenation and collagen induction therapy, reduce and heal acne, open pores and scars, visibly remove pigentation, vascular lesions, broken capillaries, and target not only corse dark hair but significantly reduce fairer fine hairs that lasers struggle to find.
How does IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) work?
This transpires due to the warming and stimulating the skin cells in the lower level, also known as the dermis. This stimulation then causes the regeneration and resurfacing of the overall appearance and texture of the skin through renewal of the elasticity resulting in exceptional treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, open pores and scars.
Hair folicles, vascular lesions including broken capillaries, wrinkles, scars, acne and pigmentation occour within different layers of the skin. Meaning the use of our second generation IPL system allows us to deliver optimal results when treating a number of skin concerns, due its multiwavelength approach.

How many treatments will I need?
All hair removal lasers can only target and remove hairs in a particular phase of their growth cycle. Therefore, at any one treatment session, certain hairs will be dormant and not able to be treated. Because of this, multiple treatments are usually necessary to ensure all hair follicles are eventually caught at the right time in their cycle and removed by treatment.
It is also important to note while most people benefit best from 6 to 8, some people require more like 8-12 treatments, depending on hair thickness, skin colour, hair colour and hormones that affect the hair’s growth cycle. In saying this, most patients should see around 30% reduction in just one treatment.
Each skin and hair type can have a different reaction to the pulsed light as the light penetrates the tissue differntly according to skin colour, hair colour, present pigmentation and hair thickness. Hormones also play an important role in hair growth therefore medications that affect hormones should be mentioned in any Laser and IPL consultation.
How far apart can I have my treatment?
How soon will I see results?
What can I expect after my treatment?
Slight follicle swelling (little red bumps) and mild erythema can occur similar to a post-waxing however this generally lasts for only an hour or so after your treatment. In some cases, swelling and erythema can last up to 72 hours however this is not common if correct aftercare is followed.
For skin treatments: Residual warmth and sensitivity are expected 24-48hours post-treatment. Skin lesions will dry up and shed within a few days. Risk of Increased pigmentation is higher at this time as the skin is photosensitive post treatment and sunprotection must be appied.
Before my IPL treatment
Direct exposure ie solarium and sunbaking and the use of fake tan products is not recommended to be applied to the treatment area for 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
Do not wax or tweeze for four weeks prior to your treatment as the root of the hair needs to be intact in order to respond to the treatment.
Shaving is offered at the Spa for clinets unable to reach some areas ie Males unable to shave their back * please note this only applies to some areas and for an additional cost. please mention at the time of the booking if you require any shaving services.
